Greater Manchester Police (GMP) was established in 1974 and is now one of the largest police forces in the UK responsible for keeping a diverse population of almost three million people - spread over 1,200 sq. km. - safe.

The force is split into 10 districts - Bolton, Bury, City of Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, and Wigan. There is also a specialist division based at Manchester International Airport.

Manchester, has been billed as one of the most diverse cities in Europe with its population speaking at least 200 different languages, leading to the city being named as Britain’s ‘City of languages’.

GMP is committed to ensuring that the make-up of our workforce is reflective of the communities we serve, and we recognise that having a diverse workforce makes us more approachable and relevant to the public.
