A common questioning style at interviews is what is known as competency-based questions. These questions are particularly evident within areas of the Civil Service but are also used by other employers. Competency-based questions are where the interviewer would ask the interviewee to give an example of when they have used a particular skill, drawing on their previous experience. Sometimes they will give guidance as to what they are specifically looking for, but this is not always the case.
