JobOppO Chat

Welcome to 2022 - the Year of the OppO!

2021 was a cracker and we look forward to ensuing 2022 tops it.

We continue to focus on the 12 sectors we believe to be the most attractive and receptive to our community as they all offer the depth and breadth of opportunities to suit those who've served in the military.

We opened the doors to JobOppO House on the 1st December

and are pleased with how well it's been received. If you're not aware, JobOppO House is an exclusive app-based employment community where we encourage veterans and service leavers to help themselves and one another. JobOppO House is buzzing with those leaving the military soon, have been out for a while and those still in the midst of "Changing Gear".

Please Tell Your OppO!

Our 12-episode partnered podcast series “A NAAFI Break with JobOppO” continues,

each pod featuring a blend of guests including employers, trade bodies, veteran-focused support organisations, veterans, and those due to leave the military. The series is exclusively available to registered members of the JobOppO Community and episodes will be hung in the relevant sector room in JobOppO House and via the dashboard on the web platform.

Series 2 will comment in April when we will be inviting our Employment Partners to explain why their organisation is a good place to work. Stand by.

With more news to come on our 2022 event plan, our partnership with TWinFM continues and will host our 2nd live Veterans into FM employment event, this time at Old Trafford Football Stadium, on the 10th March from 1200-1700.

So if you're in or near Manchester and interested in finding out a bit more about a career in Facilities Management, perhaps meeting your next employer, hearing from the JobOppO team, or simply practising your networking skills and having a nosey around Old Trafford, please register as numbers are limited.

Development

In 2022 we will be focusing on the importance of your network, including how to develop it, use it and offer it to others.

Networking, as a skill, is highly beneficial to veterans and service leavers as a strong, supportive and empathetic network is capable of opening more doors, securing more meaningful conversations and unearthing more opportunities than any other. That is why we build JobOppO House, to augment the Employability Skills Development Series we launched in 2021 - which can be accessed via the dashboard.

Community

As mentioned JobOppO House is now live and if you haven't already simply follow the link to download the app via Apple or Android and Garrath or Dom will let you in the front door!

Employment and Employability are at the heart of what JobOppO offers, and we continue to work hard to engage new Employment Partners encouraging them to promote all of their roles to our community, to think differently about applications and to see veterans as being good for business. If you know any companies who may be interested in working with us, please make an introduction.

Here are a few of the veteran-friendly employers we are working with.

  • ASDA
  • D3A Defence Group
  • Compass Group
  • Finsbury Food Group
  • Premier Inn
  • Riffle Security Solutions
  • SSAFA
  • Stagecoach
  • The Big Table Group

Our OppOs

Collaboration is key to our service landing with as many OppOs as possible and we continue to develop meaningful relationships with organisations who share our values. These include continued partnerships with Heropreneurs and the Sulha Alliance as well as new working arrangements with Building Heroes and Forces Farming among others. Exciting times.

Our own team continues to do good stuff too!

In January Jo was promoted to Operations Manager, Kayam continues to drive the development of the OppO Foundation and Dom is planning his 2300 mile epic cycle around the UK to raise money for Scotty's Little Soldiers with JobOppO being his major sponsor. Donations are welcome

2022 - the Year if the OppO!

Lastly

JobOppO is still young, agile and driven by a determination to do good things - for the right reasons. We are a small team with a sincere want to support our community. We won't get everything right, so if you have any thoughts, suggestions or comments please get in touch via email or our social channels.

Thank you for your continued support. Onwards...
