I am a management trainee at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, where I have completed operational and strategic placements. I am currently a JNCO reservist with the Military Provost Staff (MPS) (part of 1 Military Police Brigade), primarily based at the Military Corrective Training Centre (MCTC) in Colchester.
When I was in my second year of undergraduate physiotherapy degree, I joined the University Officer Training Corps. This provided an introduction to the reserves and created long-lasting friendships through challenging training exercises and socialising in the officers’ mess.
Following graduation, I transferred to 253 Provost Company Army Reserves in London, where my highlights included three overseas training exercises in Cyprus, passing my driving test, and competing in a ski championship in Austria. This was done in addition to my full-time job as a physiotherapist in the NHS and social services.
After returning from six months of travelling before COVID, I joined the MPS Reserves, a national unit, while completing my NHS Graduate Training Programme, CMI Apprenticeship, and Master’s Degree. After graduation, I plan to work full-time for the NHS and pursue a commission with the MPS.
The Reserves have taught me to be more self-assured and to speak up when something is wrong. Courage, discipline, respect, integrity, loyalty, and selfless commitment are among the values, standards, and behaviours that guide the Army. A set of values that any employer want their entire workforce to live by.
